Sources you can inspect

Every published article includes a source list. We prefer Australian government environment agencies, museums, universities, published research and established wildlife organisations. A source link lets you read the original advice, check its context and decide whether it applies where you live.

We write explanatory summaries in our own words. Linking to an organisation does not imply that it endorses Oz Wildlife or has reviewed our article.

Be precise about what is known

An observation, a research finding and a recommendation are different things. We aim to distinguish them. Research findings belong with the place, period and population studied; a local rule should not be presented as an Australia-wide rule.

Dates and uncertainty matter. Historical data is labelled as historical, and a proposed event is not described as though it has already happened. When evidence has limits, those limits belong beside the claim.

Wildlife safety comes first

Oz Wildlife is an information site. We are not a rescue service or a veterinary practice. Our general guides cannot assess an individual animal or replace advice from a licensed wildlife rescuer or vet.

For an urgent concern, use Found injured wildlife? and the rescue directory. Contact the appropriate service directly; do not wait for a website or forum reply. Rescue listings show their checking date and source so you can verify current arrangements.

Publication and changes

Articles display their publication date. Substantive revisions should also show an updated date. An older article may still be useful, but check the linked official guidance for current local rules, contact details or event information.

Help us correct the record

If you spot an error, email hello@ozwildlife.org.au. Include the page address, the wording you are querying and a reliable source where possible. Please do not send precise locations of sensitive wildlife or private information about another person.

We check correction requests against the evidence before updating an article. This inbox is not an emergency wildlife contact.

Discussion is not verification

Community posts are contributions from members. A forum answer is not an expert diagnosis or an editorially verified article. Share sources, distinguish a personal observation from a general claim, and respect requests to correct misleading advice.
